King to pen 'Storm' mini for ABC

First outing in form

Horror writer Stephen King has penned an original six-hour miniseries for ABC called "Storm of the Century," which will air on the Alphabet web next season.

While several of King's books have been adapted for the small screen, and he co-wrote a recent episode of Fox's "X-Files," he's never before written an original miniseries.Production has begun on the mini, which stars Tim Daly ("Wings") and Debrah Farentino ("EZ Streets"). Shot in Toronto and Southwest Harbor, Maine, the story explores a small town's struggle for survival when faced with pure evil during the most brutal winter storm in history.

King will executive produce, as will Mark Carliner ("Stalin," "George Wallace").
