'Card' opens N.Y.'s Israeli film festival

18 Israeli filmmakers expected at event

NEW YORK -- Julie Schles' award-winning film "Pick a Card" will screen at the opening night gala of the 14th annual Israel Film Festival, which runs from Feb. 26-March 12 in New York.

Presented by the IsraFest Foundation, the fest will be held at the City Cinemas Eastside Playhouse at Third Avenue and 55th Street.

Also unspooling at the Israel Film Festival will be Assi Dayan's "Mr. Baum," which will premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. Dayan will travel to New York to attend the Israeli fest, as will 17 other filmmakers.

Arnon Milchan is the honorary chairman of the festival. The co-chairs include David Geffen, Arthur Hiller, Sherry Lansing, David Matalon, Ron Meyer, Mike Ovitz, Sumner Redstone, Joe Roth, Haim Saban, Terry Semel, Steven Spielberg, Ted Turner and Jack Valenti.
