Steve Heyer boosted at TBS
Exec fills COO slot
In making the move, Terrence McGuirk, chairman and CEO of TBS, expanded the duties of Heyer, his second in command, without changing the executive reporting structure within the Time Warner company.
In his former job as president of TBS' worldwide sales, marketing, distribution and international networks group, Heyer headed the cable programmer's two revenue sources: advertising sales and affiliate sales.
As president and chief operating officer, Heyer will retain these duties and add responsibility for the company's cost side, which in TBS' case is primarily program purchasing.
"Steve will bring his huge revenue experience to bare against the purchasing of programming," McGuirk said.
Heyer will continue to report directly to McGuirk, as do the presidents of TBS' cable networks: CNN's Tom Johnson, TNT's Brad Siegel, TBS' Bill Burke and Cartoon Network's Betty Cohen.
Heyer, who was president of Young & Rubicam Advertising Worldwide when he joined TBS in 1994, will move from N.Y. to TBS's headquarters in Atlanta. He will spend at least one week a month in New York to maintain contact with advertising clients.
Prior to joining Y&R, Heyer spent 15 years at Booz, Allen & Hamilton, where he was a senior VP and managing partner.
In the past year, Heyer gained notice on Madison Avenue as the architect of "Media in the Millennium," a campaign that urged advertisers to steer their money from the networks to the big cable webs.
