Joan Banks Lovejoy dies

Actress, widow of actor Frank Lovejoy

Joan Banks Lovejoy, a character actress and widow of actor Frank Lovejoy, died Jan. 18 of lung cancer in Los Angeles. Her age was unreported.

Joan Banks Lovejoy's acting career began in the late 1930s with roles on Lux Radio Theater and other shows of the day.

A charter member of AFTRA, she enjoyed a long career in television with roles on "I Love Lucy," "Perry Mason" and "G.E. Theater."

Lovejoy also had recurring TV roles on "Private Secretary" and the CBS daytime drama "Love of Life."

Her husband, who enjoyed a measure of popularity during the 1950s, died in 1962.

She is survived by son Stephen, a film editor, daughter Judith, a writer, and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills.

Family suggests donations in Lovejoy's name be sent to the Motion Picture & TV Fund Foundation.
