TriStar picks up Brit pic 'Crazy'

Rea, Connolly to star in rock-n-roll spoof

TriStar Pictures has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the upcoming U.K. romantic comedy "Still Crazy," starring Stephen Rea, Billy Connolly, Timothy Spall and Jimmy Nail.

The film, which was written by the comedy duo Dick Clement and Ian la Frenais ("The Commitments"), will be directed by Brian Gibson ("The Juror," "What's Love Got to Do With It?"). Amanda Marmot will produce through her Marmot Tandy outfit. TriStar will release the film domestically and Columbia TriStar Film Distributors Intl. will handle overseas distribution.

"Crazy" chronicles the rise and fall of a fictional 1970s rock band, Strange Fruit, as it attempts a comeback in the 1990s. Other stars attached include Juliet Aubrey ("Welcome to Sarajevo"), Bill Nighy ("Fairy Tale: A True Story"), Hans Matheson ("Les Miserables") and Swedish model Helena Bergstrom.

"Still Crazy" is financed in part by the Greenlight Fund, which is funded by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England.
