Pacific prepping 20-plex

Wide screens, Chinese food and silent pagers

The Winnetka 20, Pacific Theatres' newest Southern California complex, will open Feb. 6, the company announced Wednesday.

The long-planned, 120,000-square-foot megaplex (Daily Variety, May 16, 1996) has spacious auditoriums with a total seating capacity of 5,900. The auditoriums, all of which feature stadium seating, wall-to-wall screens and all three digital sound formats, range from 700 seats in the largest to 200 in the smallest.

The company originally had planned 25 screens for the site but opted for five fewer screens to allow for larger auditoriums.

Pacific said the complex, designed by MCG Architects and built by Moorefield Construction, features a three-story glass atrium entrance. It also boasts all the amenities today's moviegoers have come to expect, including a wide array of specialty food items: pizza and other Italian fare, Chinese food and, for the first time outside their famed Hollywood location, Pink's hot dogs.

The theater will also offer a free paging service whereby babysitters or anyone can reach patrons via silent pagers available at the guest services station.

With the Winnetka 20, Pacific will boost its screen count to 350.
