British actor to top 48th Berlin fest jury

BERLIN -- British actor Ben Kingsley has been named jury president of the 48th Berlin Intl. Film Festival (Feb. 11-22), festival officials announced Wednesday.

Kingsley won an Oscar and two Golden Globes for his performance in Richard Attenborough's "Gandhi" in 1982. The actor was nominated for his supporting role in Barry Levinson's 1991 film "Bugsy." Kingsley also appeared in "Schindler's List."

Kingsley, 54, began his career on the London stage, joining the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1967. He is a founding member of the European Film Academy, which presents the European Film Awards each year in Berlin.
