Tarter control: Snags Stagebill

NY entrepreneur enters magazine biz

NEW YORK -- Fred Tarter, a Gotham entrepreneur who sells ads to movie theaters, has acquired Stagebill magazine from Primedia, publisher of New York and Seventeen magazines.

Stagebill is handed out to legit, opera and ballet audiences in Broadway theaters, as well as performing arts venues in Washington, Chicago, Dallas and San Francisco. The 75-year-old company publishes a total of 30 magazines for 80 arts organizations, producing programs for 28,000 annual performances.

Tarter is a principal shareholder of the movie theater ad sales company Screenvision Cinema Network.
