CORSINI ALL BUT IN AS KCAL CHIEF

Don Corsini, currently VP of sports, operations and production for KCAL-TV, is near being upped to fill the vacant prexy/general manager's post at the station, according to sources.

The position has been open since David Woodcock resigned after 5-1/2 years in the job at the end of September, during the station ownership transition from Disney to Young Broadcasting Inc. Deb McDermott, executive VP for the Young station group, has guided KCAL in the interim.

In Corsini, KCAL would be getting an experienced head man who has logged stints as program director at KABC-TV (1987-89) and as first VP of programming and production and later exec VP at regional sports network Prime Ticket (now Fox Sports West) between 1989 and '95.

Before being named to his present KCAL position a year ago, Corsini was VP of original programming and development for Liberty Sports, parent of Prime Sports --- the service that spun off from Prime Ticket.

Both Corsini and McDermott were out of town Tuesday and unavailable for comment. But sources report that the two have gotten on well and that Corsini is all but signed for the top job.
