How did they ever get an R on 'Lolita'?
Despite its controversial theme, "Lolita," the Adrian Lyne remake of the 1962 Stanley Kubrick film from Vladimir Nabokov's classic novel, has nabbed an R rating from the Classification and Ratings Administration of the Motion Picture Assn. of America.
The film, starring Jeremy Irons in the role earlier played by James Mason as the older man fixated on a young girl, needed the R tag in order to get a U.S. distribution deal.
CARA sources said the film didn't contain anything graphic enough to earn a stiffer rating and passed the pic through on the first screening.
The film's producers, Joel Michaels and Mario Kassar, are showing the pic to studio chiefs interested in a distribution pact.
