Robert Ridgely

Veteran character actor Robert Ridgely, who appeared in numerous films and TV shows and on the stage, died Feb. 8 of cancer in Los Angeles. He was 65.

The New Jersey native began his career performing in Manhattan supper clubs and later performed in an Off Broadway production of "The Threepenny Opera."

In the 1960s he appeared in numerous TV series, including "Sea Hunt" and "Get Smart."

As a feature actor and comedian, he had roles in such pics as "Melvin and Howard," "Philadelphia," "Blazing Saddles," "Beverly Hills Cop II," "Multiplicity" and "That Thing You Do!"

Ridgely is survived by his wife, Patricia, and a brother. A memorial service will be held at noon on Tuesday at the Directors Guild of America, 7920 Sunset Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to the Batty Fund for Robert Ridgely, Actors and Others for Animals, 11523 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601.
