'Waves' thesp will join Williams, Affleck, Damon
Stellan Skarsgard, who just wrapped Steven Spielberg's "Amistad" and was last seen in the Oscar-nominated "Breaking the Waves," will go "Good Will Hunting" under Gus Van Sant's helm for Miramax Films, sources said Tuesday.
He joins Robin Williams, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver and Matt Damon in the comedy about a young mathematical genius who, due to problems at home in his inner-city Boston upbringing, can't live up to his potential.
Skarsgard will play a renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology mathematician who takes him under his wing. Pic, scripted by Damon, is already shooting in Toronto. The production moves to Boston in three weeks.
Lawrence Bender is producing. Chris Moore is co-producer and Su Armstrong is exec producing.
Skarsgard's deal was brokered by Joe Funicello of ICM. He is also repped by Jere Scott Management.
