Fox names Luma senior VP of on-air promotion
New exec assumes responsibility for all on-air, radio spots
Luma assumes a key post at Fox with responsibility for all on-air and radio spots for the web's primetime schedule as well as telefilms, specials and latenight fare. Like his boss, George Greenberg, executive vice president of marketing, Luma has a sports background. However, his resume also includes entertainment marketing at the Big Three webs.
Fox, under the leadership of Fox TV and Fox Sports president David Hill, has been looking to bring the same sort of promotion enthusiasm and mentality to the network that the web has with its sports programming.
'Creative force'
"John is a strong creative force whose talent and experience is unparalleled in today's promotion industry," Greenberg said in a statement, adding that Luma's 20 years of experience in entertainment promotion "will be a tremendous asset to Fox as we take the on-air department to the next generation."'
Prior to his stint at Fox Sports Net, Luma had his own consulting company, called Luma Media and Marketing, where his clients included CBS. From 1993-95, he was a VP of on-air promotion at the Eye web.
Luma was also president and owner of Planet 3 Entertainment, where his client base included the four major broadcast networks. Before that, he spent eight years as VP of on-air promotions for NBC Entertainment. From 1981-83, Luma served as director of comedy and specials promotions at ABC Entertainment.
