Zbitnew made G.M. at BMG Music Canada
Ex-marketing veep now highest-ranked woman in Canadian music biz
Zbitnew joined BMG in October as veep of marketing, and was responsible for the oversight of all activities involving the marketing of releases.
In her new post, she will also be responsible for all facets of BMG's Canadian operation, including A&R.
"Lisa's marketing talent and relationships within the industry have been a huge asset as BMG has furthered its growth," said Strauss Zelnick, prexy/CEO of BMG North America. "We are pleased to have someone of Lisa's caliber within the company to ensure a seamless transition."
Zbitnew has aided Alofs in taking the label to leadership positions in country and dance, genres it has dominated over the last five years. Country artists Michelle Wright, Prairie Oyster and Charlie Major have helped give the label a strong North American presence.
BMG's foray into dance has similarly yielded a number of successes, including the "Groove Station" and "Club Euro" compilations.
Zbitnew helped bow the Vik imprint, which will become home to such artists as Crash Test Dummies, newcomer Julian Austin, John Bottomley and all future artist signings of BMG Canada.
"We have a great roster of artists and talented personnel throughout the organization to help bring their music and passion to the world," said Zbitnew.
Alofs replaced Bob Jamieson, who segued to prexy of RCA Records two years ago.
He has returned to his retail roots through a post with Disney Retail. Alofs joined BMG from HMV Canada, an 80-store operation where he spent six years as prexy.
