USC kudo to 'Confidential'

Ellroy, Helgeland, Hanson to receive Scripter Award

Continuing its string of kudos, "L.A. Confidential" was selected Wednesday as the winner of USC's 1997 Scripter Award, which will be presented March 14 to author James Ellroy and screenwriters Brian Helgeland and Curtis Hanson.

The Scripter Award is the only accolade that recognizes achievement in two media -- an original book and its translation to the screen.

"L.A. Confidential" has already pulled in awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Assn., the National Society of Film Critics, the New York Film Critics Circle, the Boston Society of Film Critics and the National Board of Review.
