Reynolds, Meaney set to brave Kelley's 'Alaska'
Hockey pic skedded to lense Jan. 26
Burt Reynolds, making a big splash in "Boogie Nights," and Colm Meaney, freshly full of "Con Air," are in final talks to join David E. Kelley's "Mystery Alaska" at Hollywood Pictures, sources said Wednesday.
Pic is about a young hockey team in Alaska that gets a chance to play the visiting New York Rangers. It is slated to start production Jan. 26 in Canada under Jay Roach's direction from Kelley's script.
Kelley and Howard Baldwin are producing.
Russell Crowe and Ron Eldard are also attached.
Reynolds is in the midst of a comeback with "Boogie Nights." The veteran thesp has starred in such pics as "Deliverance," "The Longest Yard," "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Semi-Tough." More recently he appeared in "Striptease" opposite Demi Moore and "Citizen Ruth" with Laura Dern. He also had his own sitcom, "Evening Shade" on CBS.
Meaney's feature credits include the upcoming Sundance pic "Snitch" and last year's "Snapper," which garnered him a Golden Globe nomination for best actor. He also appeared in "The Commitments" and "Far and Away." Meaney is also a regular on TV's "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."
The deal for Meaney was brokered by UTA. Manager Rick Ax also repped Meaney.
Reynolds was repped by the Gersh Agency.
