EXCLUSIVEOscar winner Billy Bob Thornton has been attached to develop and possibly direct a Miramax film based on John Dufresne's novel "Louisiana Power and Light," according to sources close to the project.
Dufresne has also inked to adapt the screenplay from the 1994 novel, in a deal worth a reported low six figures against mid-six figures.
Bonnie Timmermann, who optioned the book last year, will produce.
"Louisiana Power and Light" is a tragicomic tale of the last surviving member of a Louisiana clan long suspected within the community of being either cursed or genetically deficient.
Dufresne teaches writing at Florida Intl. U. in Miami.
Timmermann, who is also a well-known casting director, produced HBO's CableAce winning movie "In the Gloaming," and served as producer on Roman Polanski's "Death and the Maiden," as well as the Broadway production of the original play.
Thornton, who won an Academy Award for his "Sling Blade" screenplay, has a multipicture deal with Miramax.
Dufresne is repped by agent Richard P. McDonough.
