Confab eyeing H'w'd design

The 47th Intl. Design Conference in Aspen will bring a passel of Hollywood types to the mountain town June 5-8 with this year's theme: Hollywood, a Design for Living.

Filmmakers Michael Apted, Michael Tolkin, Lynda Obst, Bryan Singer and Allen and Albert Hughes are among the helmer/scribes who are expected to take part in discussions and lectures.

Author Neal Gabler will discuss the power of Hollywood and film producer Mary Schmidt Campbell will speak about cultural imperialism in the showbiz capital.

The pervasive influence of Hollywood will be the subject of one panel with Obst, Tolkin and Bruce Wagner, author of "I'm Losing You."

Tom Freston, chairman of the MTV networks, producer Paul Junger Witt and Dean Valentine, president of Walt Disney Television and Television Animation, will cover TV's impact and new direction.

Armyan Bernstein will chair the four-day conference.
