Stars out early for 'Space'
LONDON --- New Line pulled out the stops at Shepperton Studios Friday night, with the unusual move of granting press and business associates access to the stars and set of "Lost in Space" early on in production and a full year before release.
On hand were Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc and the rest of the cast, as well as director Stephen Hopkins and writer-producer Akiva Goldsman.
A New Line exec said the open house had everything to do with the fact that the pic, budgeted at more than $70 million, is by far the indie's biggest- ever project, and that the company was seeking as much publicity and support as it could muster.
Hurt was not entirely happy with the plan, however, holding out until the last minute before agreeing to attend the news conference and party afterward.
