BVTV ups Whitcomb to publicity VP post

Buena Vista Television has upped Laurel Whitcomb to vice president of publicity from her post as executive director.

Except for a three-year stint at ABC ending in 1989, where she rose to manager of West Coast publicity, Whitcomb has worked for Disney since her

college years.

Her first salaried position at the company was as a senior advertising copywriter at Disneyland Marketing in 1978, and later she helped launch the Disney Channel, serving as manager of program publicity.

After rejoining Disney in 1989, Whitcomb worked her way up from director of publicity, where she coordinated publicity campaigns for such series as "Gargoyles," "Land's End," "Bill Nye the Science Guy," "Sing Me a Story with Belle" and "The Disney Afternoon."

Whitcomb reports to Marian Effinger, VP of advertising, publicity and promotion for Walt Disney Television. Whitcomb now oversees publicity for all syndicated series and trade publicity for the entire syndication division.

The Middle-East International Film Festival kicks off this fall.
