U Intl. TV taps Garcia-Ramon

Alejandro Garcia-Ramon has been tapped VP, Latin America, for Universal Intl. Television. He will be based in Miami.

Garcia-Ramon, 42, most recently headed New World's Latin American, Spain and Portugal sales operation. He worked closely at New World with Armando Nunez Jr., who Tuesday was named to the post of president of Universal Intl. Television.

In addition to the new office in Miami, which will be the base for a higher presence in the Latin American market, UIT is also opening an office in Singapore in recognition of the growing importance and huge potential of the Asian market. No one has been named to head that office.

Garcia-Ramon joined New World in June 1992 after a lengthy career in various areas of the Latin American television market. He worked for Buena Vista Prods., where he developed the Disney Club franchise throughout the Latin region, and before that he was programming manager of Radio Caracas Television in Venezuela.

Garcia-Ramon began his career in June 1978 as a trainee at the ABC TV Stations group under the supervision of division president Richard O'Leary.

The Middle-East International Film Festival kicks off this fall.
