'ROBIN' BOBS TO A 4.2

"The New Adventures of Robin Hood," TNT's first original drama, got off to a strong start Monday night in the 10-11 p.m. slot.

The action hour, produced by sister company Warner Bros. Intl. Television, posted a 4.2 rating in the cable uni-verse of 68 million households, according to Nielsen. TNT is in about 70% of cable homes. The rating is believed to be one of the highest ever for an original show on cable.

The show got a huge boost from wrestling lead-in "WCW Monday Nitro," which averaged a 4.2 rating in its sec-ond hour.

TNT president Brad Siegel was thrilled with the show's premiere numbers.

"Our strategy has been to develop a show that we could launch behind 'WCW,' " Siegel said. The wrestling show's numbers have improved since ABC's "Monday Night Football" finished its season last month.

"The great thing about this is, this is the first real synergy for Turner with Warner Bros. It is exactly what we hoped this merger could do," Siegel said.

USA Network also premiered its new hourlong drama "La Femme Nikita" in the 10-11 p.m. slot and posted a 2.2 rating, which the network said it was very pleased with.
