Sony Pictures buoys Nafius to senior veep
The position Nafius is filling is a new creation, engineered to make Nafius a conduit between SPE's internal communications (studio newsletters, etc.) and the infostreams it directs toward other arms of Sony Corp. and the outside world.
Nafius' job will be to help package communications and presentations from SPE to other Sony divisions, to financial and corporate analysts, and to its employees.
Nafius also coined the studio's new corporate slogan, "Lighting Up Screens Around the World."
Nafius, who was previously VP, strategic communications, came to Sony in January 1996 from GTE Corp., where he was director, strategic communications. In his 16 years at GTE, Nafius was a key player in that company's re-engineering process, completely overhauling its internal communications, publicity and corporate image departments.
Before working in the corporate world, Nafius was a newspaperman and advertising copywriter and also did a stint as a staff writer for Casey Kasem's "America's Top 40."
Nafius will continue to report to SPE exec VP of corporate communications Bruce Redditt and will remain on the studio's Culver City lot.
