MIRON TO CHAIR NCTA BOARD

NEW ORLEANS --- Cablers wrapped up their annual National Cable Television Assn. convention with the election of Advanced/Newhouse Communications prexy Robert Miron as NCTA board chairman. This will be Miron's second term as NCTA board chairman.

Miron replaces Time Warner vice chairman Ted Turner, who served as the cable trade group's board chairman for the past year. Turner was the first programming executive to hold the NCTA chairman's slot. As an immediate past chairman, Turner will continue to serve on the NCTA board.

The NCTA had hoped for attendance at the four-day confab to reach 30,000, but only 28,000 registered for the annual meet. The convention's attendance is down from last year's meeting in Los Angeles, which attracted more than 30,000 cablers.

NCTA officials said the low turnout was caused in part by scheduling. The national show comes just four months after the Western Cable Show, which was held in Anaheim in December. Next year's national cable show will be held in May in Atlanta.
