CBS may 'Step' on ABC

CBS, which earlier this year snagged veteran sitcom "Family Matters" from ABC, is in a position to do the same with the series "Step by Step."

According to industry sources the Eye web has a deal with Warner Bros. Television, which produces "Step by Step" and "Family Matters," to move "Step by Step" if the show is to continue after this season. Both shows are part of ABC's Friday-night lineup.

Since it premiered a few weeks ago as a midseason replacement, "Step by Step" has posted solid numbers and is averaging a 9.1 rating and 16 share, according to Nielsen.

Whether the show will actually move to CBS remains to be seen. CBS plans to air "Family Matters" on Friday nights next season, most likely in the 8 p.m. timeslot. It also is developing several companion shows for next sea-son.

CBS and Warner Bros. declined comment.
