U TV boosts Charles Engel to exec VP

Universal Television has upped Charles Engel from senior veep to executive VP of programming.
Engel, who reports to Universal Television president Tom Thayer, will continue to oversee programming for com-edy and drama, as well as longform franchises such as "Columbo" and "The Rockford Files."
"Charlie's well-deserved promotion acknowledges his pivotal role as part of our team," said Thayer, adding that Engel is "directly responsible for some of the longest-running hits on the air."
Engel has held several posts at Universal Television in series, telefilms and miniseries.
