Fraser seated 'Ringside'

Brendan Fraser is attached to star in the upcoming Norman Mailer-helmed boxing pic "Ringside."

Fraser joins previously announced cast members Halle Berry, Anthony Quinn and Paul Sorvino in the project, which focuses on a young Irish American ex-con who seeks redemption inside and outside the boxing ring.

Veteran cinematographer John Bailey also has signed on to lense the film, now scheduled for a July New York City shoot.

Bailey, whose credits include "Nobody's Fool," "In the Line of Fire," "Groundhog Day" and James L. Brooks' upcoming "Old Friends," also shot Mailer's last film, "Tough Guys Don't Dance" (1987).

The film is produced by Daniel Bigel and Michael Mailer of Gotham based Bigel/Mailer Films. The pair recently completed James Toback's "Two Girls and a Guy" starring Robert Downey Jr., Heather Graham and Natasha Wagner.

Private sources

"Ringside" is partially financed through private sources; worldwide distribution rights are still available.

Fraser stars in Disney's live-action remake "George of the Jungle," slated for a July release. His other credits include "Encino Man," "School Ties" and "Mrs. Winterbourne."

The Middle-East International Film Festival kicks off this fall.
