Silver, Donner blitzin' Germany with action pix

CANNES --- German distrib Helkon Media has inked with Decade Pictures, the new indie company headed by Joel Silver and Richard Donner, for rights to an action-pic package in all German-speaking territories.

The deal calls for a minimum of two pics with an option on future projects. Decade's first five productions over the next two years are in the $10 million budget range.

First up are Greg Yaitanes' "Double Tap," toplining Heather Locklear and Stephen Rea, and "Running Lucky," now in pre-production.

The pact was brokered by Silver Pictures finance and administration VP Steve Richards and Helkon's U.S. rep Paula Himel, exec VP of Intl. Film Office.

The agreement with Decade comes on the heels of Helkon's similar deal with producer Ed Pressman announced during the American Film Market.

Helkon, headed by Martin Heldmann and Werner Koenig, has made an aggressive push in acquisitions since opening its doors 18 months ago. Through its domestic theatrical distribution operation Nil Film, based in Munich, the company is aiming to be a significant competitor for German box office receipts.
