ESPN announced Tuesday it is launching a new biweekly magazine produced by the company's Disney Consumer Products arm.

The periodical, called ESPN Magazine, will come out twice each month along with specials at various times, debuting the first quarter of 1998. Mag will utilize ESPN's sports news resources along with commentary and opinion pieces. It will have a 10-by-12-inch format.

John Skipper, currently senior VP of Disney Publishing, will move over to head the magazine as its senior VP and general manager, working closely with ESPN prexy Steve Bornstein and ESPN senior VP and executive editor John A. Walsh.
