Yorn adorns law firm
Founded in 1995 by Michael Barnes, Kevin Morris and Bryan Wolf, the firm's profile is growing, anchored by a strong list of entrepreneurial film talent the firm is assisting in raising financing for film ventures.
Yorn becomes a partner after serving as a senior associate. He was recruited in February 1996 from the L.A. County Deputy District Attorney's Office, where he was prosecuting homicides for the Hardcore Gang Unit.
Though the terrain is decidedly different in entertainment law, Yorn feels the training has served him well. "It's a different business, going from trial law to transactional law, but you're also dealing with people who are as adverse to you as you are to them, at times."
The firm represents such talent as Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack, New Crime partners Steve Pink and D.V. DeVincentiis, Anne Heche, Gabriel Byrne, Benicio Del Toro, Minnie Driver and "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, among others.
Morris said one of the firm's strengths has come from fellow co-founder Barnes, whose extensive background in corporate finance and venture capital puts the firm in a position to find financing to fuel the ambitions of its clientele.
"The slant of the firm is that our clients are entrepreneurial, and we're assisting in that," Morris said. "The idea is to be proactive in putting people together with opportunities."
