'Dance' dips into N.Y.

Busy industryites made room on their dance cards for the Gotham premiere of Miramax Films' "Shall We Dance?" Following the Monday screening at the Guild Theater, the crowd sashayed over to the nightclub Laura Belle for drinks, dessert and dancing. Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein and his wife Eve hosted the event, which was held in association with the American Foundation for AIDS Research and the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.

Capping the evening were performances by "Forever Tango!" stars Carlos Gavito and Marcela Duran and the Fred Astaire Dance Studios' Theo and Janine Derleth. Among those spotted on and off the dance floor were "Shall We Dance?" director Masayuki Suo, producer Masui Shoji from Altamira Pictures, Miramax senior VP Scott Greenstein, Mary Rodgers, James Hammerstein, Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue, Lesley Ann Warren, Lauren Bacall, Liza Minnelli, Peter Bogdanovich, Steve Guttenberg and Mary Tyler Moore.

The Middle-East International Film Festival kicks off this fall.
