Dutch TV giant may grow
A spokesperson for the group confirmed it is in talks to take an option on a 49% stake in TV10, a channel now mainly owned by U.S. producer and distributor Saban. TV10 has been specializing in older TV series like "L.A. Law" and "Lou Grant," but in August began programming some 10 hours a day of kidfare, 75% of that Saban product.
RTL 4 has some of the highest-rated children's shows in Holland and also holds rights to much of Fox Kids' product. TV10 is already involved in a cooperation agreement with HMG penned last June which has HMG company Filmlux buying programs for TV10.
HMG holds close to a 60% slice of the TV ad pie in Holland, a situation that led to the European Commission forcing RTL 5 to change its format from general entertainment to news and information. The jury is out on whether the EC would allow HMG to acquire an additional stake in a TV channel.
