'Love!' still conquers all among L.A., N.Y. exclusives
Based on the Terrence McNally play, "Love" brought home $65,308 on six screens in both coasts over the Memorial Day weekend, excluding the Monday holiday.
Arrow Releasing's "Ponette" was the second-most-popular limited-release film, based on its East Coast debut. The French-language pic rang up $26,035 on three screens in Gotham.
Fox Searchlight's "The Van" drove away with $22,468 on the East Coast and captured the No. 3 position on the roster.
The following are the weekend grosses for films playing on a limited number of screens in New York and Los Angeles:
Los Angeles
"Love! Valour! Compassion!" (Fine Line) faded 18% to $10,842 in its second at the Cineplex Odeon Showcase, 17% to $4,879 in its second at the Landmark Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion and 10% to $4,785 in its second at the Laemmle Monica.
"Like a Bride" (Atara Releasing) bowed with $6,941 at the Laemmle Music Hall.
"Nowhere" (Fine Line) slipped 30% to $6,846 in its third at the Laemmle Sunset 5.
"Children of the Revolution" (Miramax) fell 20% to $2,680 in its fourth at the Laemmle Sunset 5 and 14% to $2,611 in its fourth at the Landmark NuWilshire.
"Fetishes" (Cinema Village) bowed with $5,215 at the Laemmle Sunset 5.
"Kolya" (Miramax) climbed 44% to $4,833 in its 18th at the Landmark Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion.
"Waiting for Guffman" (Sony) surged 37% to $4,318 in its 14th at the Landmark NuWilshire.
"Irma Vep" (Zeitgeist) declined 39% to $4,250 in its second at the Laemmle Music Hall.
"Brassed Off" (Miramax) debuted with $3,608 at the Laemmle Royal.
"Twin Town" (Gramercy) skidded 60% to $2,346 in its second at the Laemmle Sunset 5.
"Broken English" (Sony Pictures Classics) dropped 13% to $2,094 in its fourth at the Laemmle Monica.
"Traveller" (October) slipped 19% to $1,904 in its fifth at the Laemmle Monica.
"The Quiet Room" (Fine Line) climbed 7% to $1,755 in its fourth at the Landmark Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion.
"A Chef in Love" (Sony Pictures Classics) took in $1,601 at the Laemmle Music Hall.
"Schizopolis" (Northern Arts) bowed to $1,109 at the Landmark Nuart.
"Kama Sutra" (Trimark) gained 6% to $848 in its 13th at the Landmark Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion.
"All Over Me" (Fine Line) brought home $923 at the AMC Fine Arts.
New York
"Love! Valour! Compassion!" declined 29% to $22,572 in its second at the Sony Lincoln Square, 20% to $11,944 in its second at the Loews 19th Street East and 18% to $10,286 in its second at the City Cinemas 1, 2 and Third Avenue.
"Ponette" (Arrow Releasing) bowed to $11,641 at the City Cinemas Angelika, $7,850 at the City Cinemas 1, 2 and Third Avenue and $6,544 at the Cineplex Odeon Carnegie Hall.
"The Van" (Fox Searchlight) slipped 1% to $10,338 in its second at the City Cinemas Angelika and 13% to $5,853 in its second at the City Cinemas 1, 2 and Third Avenue. It picked up 2% to $6,277 in its second at the Cineplex Odeon Regency.
"Diary of a Seducer" (Leisure Time) fell 5% to $8,528 in its fourth at Lincoln Plaza and rang up $8,341 in its first at the City Cinemas Angelika.
"La Promesse" (New Yorker) faded 4% to $8,979 in its second at Lincoln Plaza and 5% to $7,212 in its second at the Quad.
"Kolya" surged 44% to $12,029 in its 18th at Lincoln Plaza and brought home $1,854 in its first at the Screening Room.
"Brassed Off" (Miramax) debuted with $5,953 at the City Cinemas Angelika, $5,081 at the Sony Lincoln Square and $1,709 at the Loews New York Twin.
"Flamenco" (New Yorker) rose 5% to $8,368 in its fifth at Lincoln Plaza and 12% to $3,244 in its second at the Quad.
"The Daytrippers" (CFP) increased 26% to $8,475 in its 12th at Lincoln Plaza and 36% to $2,941 in its sixth at City Cinemas Village East.
"The Designated Mourner" (First Look) picked up 8% to $5,753 in its fourth at City Cinemas 68th Street and rang up $1,866 at City Cinemas Village East.
"Nowhere" gave up 6% to $7,068 in its third at the Quad.
"Female Perversions" (October) gained 3% to $6,880 in its fifth at the Quad.
"When We Were Kings" (Gramercy) climbed 147% to $3,132 in its second at the Screening Room and slipped 1% to $3,496 in its fifth at the Cineplex Odeon 59th Street East.
"Fetishes" dropped 12% to $6,300 in its third at the Cinema Village.
"Children of the Revolution" fell 33% to $3,058 in its second at the City Cinemas Village East and 24% to $2,975 in its second at the Cineplex Odeon 62nd Street.
"Crash" skidded 23% to $5,000 in its 10th at the City Cinemas Angelika.
"Anna Karenina" added 5% to $4,630 in its second at the Cineplex Odeon Beekman.
"Kama Sutra" rose 22% to $4,534 in its fourth at the Angelika 57.
"Broken English" brought home $2,049 in its first at the City Cinemas Village East and $975 in its first at the Guild 50th Street.
"A Chef in Love" sacrificed 8% to $2,771 in its fifth at the Cineplex Odeon Carnegie Hall.
"All Over Me" dropped 51% to $2,735 in its fifth at the City Cinemas Angelika.
