Grammer on 'Block' in Canuck co-prod
The pic is directed by Brit helmer Vadim Jean ("Leon the Pig Farmer," "Clockwork Mice") and co-stars Amanda Donohoe ("The Madness of King George").
Grammer plays Howard Spitz, a cynical, down-on-his-luck detective novelist who decides to pen children's books to make some extra dough. The only problem is that Spitz hates kids and he turns to eight-year-old Samantha (newcomer Genevieve Tessier) for advice about what kids like. Donohoe portrays Samantha's mother.
Brooks is producing the pic with Imagex president Chris Zimmer, with Metrodome's Alan Martin handling exec producer duties. The script was written by first-time feature scripter Jurgen Wolff, a London-based American who has written extensively for TV in Europe.
International sales are handled by Victor Films of London, with Metrodome distributing in the U.K. and Malofilm in Canada. The film shoots for five weeks in Halifax before heading to Los Angeles for a week.
It is the first feature for Imagex since "Love and Death on Long Island," which recently had its world preem in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
