'Cold War' signs Branagh for Hopkins

Kenneth Branagh has replaced the previously announced Anthony Hopkins as narrator of the epic Turner Original Prods. 24-hour documentary series "Cold War," with Hopkins forced to drop his commitment due to time constraints.

Docu series --- thought to be the most ambitious such project for TV in terms of sheer hours --- will air exclusively on CNN in a pair of 12-week runs. Volume one of the primetime series, covering the years 1917-72, will premiere Sunday nights from Sept. 13 to Nov. 29, 1998. Volume two, covering the 1960s to present day, is skedded for Sundays between Jan. 24 and April 25, 1999.
