Gotham taps twin projects

NEW YORK -- Indie production company Gotham Entertainment Group has picked up a spec script and launched an online magazine for women.

Gotham paid low six figures for "Dead Run," a thriller penned by Ronald Clark and Brian Moriarty. The project will be produced by Gotham principal Patrick McDarrah and head of production Chris Daniel. It will be exec produced by Gotham principal Joel Roodman and co-produced by director of production Jake Cashill.

Leslie Kallen of the Kallen Agency negotiated the deal on behalf of the authors. Steven Beer of the law firm Rudolph & Beer represents Gotham, which was founded in 1995 by McDarrah and Roodman, both former Miramax Films execs.

Through its interactive unit, Gotham has launched Smarty-Pants, a website aimed at women age 18-35.

Emma Gardner is editor-in-chief of the online magazine, which is divided into six main departments - reviews, essays, worklife, art & fiction, academic update and sports.

Smarty-Pants is an ad-supported project whose content will be rotated in cycles. New material will be available in some or all of the six main departments with a total update every fourth week.

Founded in 1996 by principals Michael Sepso and Paul Sullivan, Gotham Interactive also acts as a traditional website developer for clients such as Twinlab, Cabin Fever Entertainment and Next Model Management.
