Endemol diverts to theme parks

AMSTERDAM --- Endemol Entertainment, adding another sideline to its growing portfolio of entertainment interests, in December plans to open ShowBizCity, a 12,000-square-meter Dutch answer to U.S.-launched film theme parks.

ShowBizCity will be located in Aalsmeer, a short distance from Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam, and next door to Joop van den Ende Studios.

The entertainment center is the brainchild of Van den Ende, co-founder of Endemol and the driving force behind Endemol's theatrical interests in Holland, the U.S. and the U.K.

Included in ShowBizCity will be a 900-seat Broadway Theatre, where a daily one-hour show that Endemol says has been produced in New York will be staged.

ShowBizCity will also feature a 230-seat Comedy Store to include performances by stand-up comedians, a music cafe, a Back To The '60s Cafe, theaters, restaurants and tours of the Aalsmeer studios, where many of Holland's more popular TV programs are made. Parts of the new covered complex will also double as new TV production sites.

The entertainment complex will be able to accommodate some 2,500 visitors a day.
