Music exec Reid tapped to top Polygram Canada
Reid will oversee the national operation of more than 10 labels spanning all musical genres. He'll also shepherd the group's sales, distribution and music publishing activities, as well as Polygram Filmed Entertainment.
"In the various steps of his career, the artistic community and John's colleagues have found him to be a pleasure to work with," said Alain Levy, prexy and CEO of Polygram, and to whom Reid will report.
Reid will also work closely with PFE prexy Darryl Iwai to expand the film company's distribution operations in advance of several upcoming releases, including "The Game," with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn, and Robert Altman's "The Gingerbread Man."
Reid will assist in the development of relationships with local talent to "forge distinctive productions" for PFE, according to Levy.
As prexy of the label Triumvirate since 1995, Reid tapped his considerable marketing expertise to bring releases by such Canadian artists as A&M's Jann Arden and Mercury's Shania Twain to multiplatinum prominence.
"I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to take on a broader role in the ongoing growth of Polygram Canada in both the music and film areas," Reid said.
Summers, a 40-year vet of the music biz who spent 25 years with Polygram in various capacities, will officially step down Oct. 1.
