'Boogie,' 'Out' saluted

The Film Information Council has awarded Excellence in Film Marketing awards to the marketing departments of New Line Cinema for "Boogie Nights" and Paramount Pictures for "In & Out."

In giving New Line the monthly honor for October, the council noted how well the targeted campaign for "Boogie Nights" had been carried out, with trailers and media interviews with its stars. For September winner "In & Out," Par was saluted for its "brilliant word-of-mouth" campaign to sell the picture as well as for the numerous appearances made by star Kevin Kline to promote the film.

Five finalists among the year's chosen marketing departments will be selected to compete for the Charles M. Powell Award for best-marketed motion picture for 1997. The FIC awards will be presented in February.
