George Newi

George H. Newi, former president of the ABC Television Network, died July 22 of a heart attack while on vacation in Norway. Newi, who resided in Bonita Spring, Fla., was 62.

Newi began his career at ABC in 1963 when he joined the sales department. Other positions included heading the daytime and sports sales divisions, vice president/general manager of the network in 1978 and president in 1985, and, after Capital Cities bought ABC in 1986, head of affiliate relations. Newi remained with ABC until his retirement in 1995.

Newi is survived by his wife, one daughter, and two sons.
