BVTV redraws PR stripes

Kim Harbin has been named vice president of publicity for Buena Vista Television, succeeding Laurel Whitcomb, who has segued to a newly created veepee PR post within Walt Disney TV Animation.

Harbin comes to Buena Vista TV after 14 years with WBZ-TV Boston, where she was most recently marketing director. In her new post, she'll oversee all publicity for Disney's syndication arm, as well as Buena Vista's ac-tivities in the cable and pay-per-view arena. She reports to Buena Vista TV president Mort Marcus.

Whitcomb, a Disney TV veteran, has been tapped to launch a new publicity department within Walt Disney TV Animation, which has tripled its output over the past two years.

As VP of publicity, Whitcomb will spearhead trade and consumer PR efforts for the division's animated series, specials and direct-to-video productions. She reports to Dean Valentine, prexy of Walt Disney TV and Walt Dis-ney TV Animation. Whitcomb spent three years as a publicist for ABC before joining Buena Vista TV in 1989. She began her career as an advertising copywriter with Disneyland's marketing department and later helped launch the Disney Channel.
