MCA adds Levin to mix
Red Ant exec to head promos at record group
Levin will be ankling her post as promotion veep at Red Ant Entertainment, a move which when coupled with last week's exit of G.M. Randy Miller, seemingly portends the end of the startup label.
Levin, known as a smart and creative promo powerhouse whose skills excel in breaking discs in the R&B and al-ternative genres, would come in over promotion veep Skip Bishop, according to sources.
MCA recently restructured several of its key departments, resulting in the exit of more than a dozen staffers at all levels of the company.
The Levin hire --- though the deal is not done --- would be the latest reconfiguring of the label ranks.
The move also puts a question mark over the future of Bishop, who was one of the first significant hires less than a year ago by the new regime of prexy Jay Boberg and exec veep Abbey Konowitch, and has been quietly shaping that department.
Bonnie Goldner, Bishop's second in command, is not expected to be affected by the Levin segue.
Label insiders note that Levin, who will likely bring some of her Red Ant promo compatriots to the new gig, will join the label at a time when it is on the verge of breaking several key records.
The 10-year record industry vet is credited with shepherding successful discs from Ice Cube and Ice-T, among others, while at potent indie Priority Records, her post before Red Ant.
