Fox, Poundstone ink deal for '98 sitcom
The new series, executive produced by Linda Morris and Vic Rauseo, marks Poundstone's first primetime sitcom foray. Poundstone briefly hosted her own Saturday night variety show for ABC in 1993, but that show only lasted a couple of episodes.
Since then, Poundstone has worked on numerous projects, including her current stint as a "Roving Reporter" on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," where once a month, she reports on slice-of-life events for the talkshow.
In the Fox sitcom pilot, Poundstone will play a single Los Angeles TV reporter who's raising two foster children, one black and one white. The concept closely mirrors Poundstone's own life as a foster parent and TV personality.
Aside from her "Rosie" reporter role, Poundstone currently serves as the voice of character Judge Stone on ABC's new animated kids series "Science Court." She also has a book deal with Crown, writes a column for "Mother Jones" magazine, and is producing and narrating an upcoming kids audio book entitled "Completely Yours."
Her other TV experience includes live humorous coverage of the 1992 political conventions for "The Tonight Show" and a 1992 CableACE Award-winning HBO comedy special.
Poundstone's Fox deal was made by 20th Century Fox TV prexy Sandy Grushow, her manager Bonnie Burns and attorney Craig Jacobson.
