Schmidt slips into Canal+ marketing job

PARIS --- Michel Schmidt, former head of international sales at French film major Gaumont, has been named director of sales and marketing for Canal Plus' subsidiaries division.

Word of Schmidt's arrival at the pay television giant has been rumored in Paris since the start of the summer, but exactly what role he would have was not clear. His nomination marks the latest step in the management reorganization of the subsidiaries, undertaken by division head Vincent Grimond.

That division includes film arm Studio Canal Plus, as well as the growing rights arm Canal Plus D.A. and TV production company Ellipse. "Each subsidiary obviously has its own management structure, but around me I have gathered a finance director, a development director, a director of Ellipse, and now Michel joins as sales and marketing director," Grimond told Daily Variety. "My team is now in place."

Schmidt's place as head of international sales for Gaumont has gone to Hugo Bergson-Vuillaume, former general manager at Skyrock radio, who is set to join Gaumont on Sept. 15.
