Lake takes new post at Village Roadshow

SYDNEY --- Village Roadshow Pictures Australia, the film and TV production arm of the entertainment and leisure conglom, has been restructured with the naming of Michael Lake to the new post of managing director.

Lake retains his title of managing director of the Warner Roadshow Movie World Studios in Queensland but will now spend half his time at VRP's offices in Sydney and Melbourne.

VRP president Greg Coote told Daily Variety that Lake's appointment was chiefly prompted by the company's need to have a stronger presence in Sydney and Melbourne --- close to indie producers with whom VRP is keen to work, and to the TV networks.

Another factor was the exit last month of VRP Australia general manager Brett Chenoweth, who has joined the Microsoft/Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd. online co-venture.

Separately, Coote confirmed Nick McMahon has resigned as exec VP of international TV sales, but would retain some links with VRP as a consultant. Coote said McMahon won't be replaced and sales would continue to be supervised by the L.A.-based head of worldwide TV sales, Kirk D'Amico.

Coote disclosed that Matt Carroll, who produced "Diana and Me" for VRP, is making a number of "sensitive changes" which may involve some reshooting of the pic following the death of Princess Diana.

The romantic comedy toplines Toni Collette as a young woman obsessed with the Princess of Wales, and who meets a pushy paparazzo in her quest.
