The company certainly thinks so, and points to the commitment reached Tuesday with the Walt Disney Co.'s Character Voices Intl. division to create a dubbing/post house in Germany, to be called Todd-AO Germany, and to follow with other facilities in France, Italy, Spain and Southeast Asia, possibly Hong Kong.
The Todd-AO pact calls for a joint venture that will build and operate post houses around the world within the next 10 or so years. All the facilities will bring state-of-the-art film and TV mixing, dubbing and editing equipment and practice to bear, providing for more local work and planning.
Todd-AO chieftain Salah Hassanein plans to have nine or 10 plants up and running within the short term, with perhaps more to follow. The company has completed digesting its acquisitions of recent months, including Hollywood Digital, Chrysalis Studios and Fanatic Film Lab in London, and Editworks in Atlanta.
