E! adds feed on West Coast

E! Entertainment Television will, as previously promised, add a West Coast feed of its programming beginning Sept. 29 at midnight PDT that will enable the network to run its daily core lineup of "E! News Daily," "Howard Stern" and "Talk Soup" in primetime on both coasts.

The network presently transmits just a single signal to cable operators around the country. Second transmission will provide the same programming three hours later than the current feed and will be delivered using the new state-of-the-art Scientific Atlanta PowerVu digital compression system for delivery to the Pacific, Mountain and Hawaiian time zones.

PowerVu video compression allows E! to deliver the time-shifted programming feed without adding a second satellite transponder, beamed out using a small portion of the network's existing satellite transponder bandwidth.

"The ability to add a West Coast feed without incurring additional transponder costs offers substantial financial and operator benefits," said E! senior VP and CFO William Keenan.

Second signal allows E! to air the first run of its "E! News Daily" show simultaneously at 6 p.m. in both the Eastern and Pacific time zones.
