About noon Monday, the midday personality team Conway & Steckler (Tim Conway Jr. and Doug Steckler) were taking a break outside the studio.
Enter Riki Rachtman, 7-10 p.m. personality. According to a witness, Rachtman saw Steckler and allegedly punched him, causing blood to flow and police to be summoned. Tom Leykis had to be called in to take over hosting chores over the final two hours of the Conway-Steckler shift.
The alleged assault left several questions, including whether Steckler said something on the air that so infuriated Rachtman and what Rachtman was doing at the station some seven hours before his shift was to begin. Rachtman was not on the air Monday night.
KLSX program director Jack Silver had no comment, and station general manager Bob Moore could not be reached.
