Along with longtime partner Larry Klein, Goodman was nominated for eight Emmys and won twice, for episodes of "The Jack Benny Show" in 1959 and "The Flip Wilson Show" in 1971.
He met Carson in 1953 when the future host of "The Tonight Show" first arrived in Los Angeles. Goodman by then was a veteran Hope writer.
Over the years, Goodman also worked with Milton Berle, Frank Sinatra, Steve Allen, Imogene Coca, Carol Burnett, Jackie Gleason, David Letterman and others.
Survivors include his wife, Natalie, two daughters and a brother.
