He replaces Denise Gurin, who recently ankled to become VP of film and head film buyer at Regal Cinemas (Daily Variety, Aug. 8).
"Alan brings to his new responsibilities a wealth of experience, having worked with some of the best film buyers in the business," Mann president and CEO Charles Goldwater said in announcing the appointment.
"For the two years that I've been here, Alan has been an integral and invaluable member of our strategic planning team, and has contributed to the development and evaluation of new theater projects that have helped create a new future for Mann Theaters," Goldwater added.
Goldwater said that during the decision-making process, he had received a number of calls from distribution executives in favor of Davy's promotion.
Davy began his exhibition career in 1975 as theater manager of the Festival Walnut Creek in Northern California. He became a film buyer for Festival in 1980.
The Mann and Festival circuits were merged under the Mann moniker after Gulf & Western bought the two in 1986. Davy most recently served as vice president of film under Gurin.
"I'm home-grown, which is very rare in this industry," said Davy. "Most exhibition executives have had to declare free agency and change teams. I've been blessed to move up in the company I love."
